Porcelain Teeth Crowns

Cosmetic Dentistry serving Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Porcelain teeth crowns—also referred to as porcelain caps—are a safe, natural looking, and permanent option for people who have suffered extensive damage to their teeth.

Porcelain teeth crowns are custom designed and fitted to look, function, and feel just like your natural teeth. Made from a specially formulated dental ceramic, porcelain crowns can match the color, translucency, and texture of natural tooth enamel; and using modern techniques and formulations; today's porcelain crowns can withstand even the heaviest wear.

About the material

Porcelain teeth crowns are fabricated from a specially formulated dental ceramic material, designed to be strong, tough, durable, and beautiful.

The porcelain material comes in a small block, and is then custom-fabricated into the right size, shape, and dimensions for the individual patient.

About the teeth crown procedure

Your teeth crown procedure will take place over the course of two office visits.

During your first visit, your tooth will be prepared. First, any decayed material will be removed and the tooth is cleaned thoroughly to prevent additional decay. Then, the surface of the tooth will be prepared to promote a solid bond with your new teeth crown. A precise custom mold will then be taken. This mold will be used to fabricate your new crown to your exact specifications.

You will be fitted with a temporary crown to protect your tooth until your second appointment with us.

During your second visit, your newly created crown will be carefully fitted to your existing tooth, and any necessary adjustments will be made. Once the fit is perfect, your new porcelain teeth crown will be permanently bonded to your tooth using specially formulated dental cement.

Finally, Dr. George will evaluate your bite and the final fit of your new porcelain teeth crown to ensure that your teeth fit together correctly and your temporomandibular joint is properly aligned. She will make any final adjustments necessary, and your procedure will be complete.
