FAQ - Breath Treatment
Commonly Asked Questions in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
What causes bad breath?
Bad breath, at its core, is caused by bacteria. The cause of the bacteria, however, varies. The root cause could be dental decay, illness, poor hygiene, or some other cause.
How can you determine the cause of a breath problem?
The best way to determine the root cause of chronic bad breath is to schedule a personal consultation with an experienced, skilled dentist.
Dr. George and her staff will first take a medical history to evaluate whether your breath problems are caused by an illness. Then they will perform a full dental examination, to determine whether dental problems are causing your halitosis.
If neither of these is the cause, they will perform a careful analysis of the bacteria present in your mouth to evaluate these as the potential cause.
What treatments are available?
Depending on the root cause of your breath problem, your treatment might consist of restorative dental work, thorough cleaning and a hygiene regimen, or prescription products designed to address your unique bacterial issues.
Are the treatments safe?
Yes. Our custom breath treatments are safe and effective ways to maintain excellent oral health.
How long will the results last?
This is very hard to predict. If your breath problems are a result of dental decay, reparative work should resolve your issues permanently. If your bad breath problem is caused by a bacterial imbalance, you will be able to treat your problem with prescription products for as long as the condition persists.
