Implant Dentistry - Dental Implants

Cosmetic Dentistry serving Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

For patients who have suffered tooth loss, implant dentistry offers the most complete, permanent, and natural looking option for tooth replacement.

Dental implants are often preferred over tooth replacement options such as bridges and dentures, because the implant is a permanent, full replacement for both the visible portion of the tooth and the tooth root. Replacing the root portion of the tooth prevents some of the bone loss problems that can result from the loss of the tooth root.

Dental implants consist of two parts: The implant itself, which is implanted into the jaw to replace the tooth root, and the tooth restoration, which is the visible portion attached to the implant.

Dr. George works only with the restoration, or tooth portion, of dental implants. This includes new implants as well as existing implant that require replacement of the visible portion of the tooth.

There are two general types of dental implant restoration: Individual crowns to replace a single tooth, and permanent bridges to replace several adjacent teeth.

Single tooth implant restorations

When you have a single dental implant, or multiple non-adjacent implants, your dental restoration can be accomplished with a sturdy, durable porcelain crown.

Your crown will be custom-crafted to fit your implant and to integrate with surrounding teeth, so it will be indistinguishable from as natural, healthy tooth.

Multiple teeth implant restorations

In cases of multiple adjacent dental implants, we will often do an implant-supported bridge rather than individual porcelain crowns. This lets us craft the tooth replacements more easily and economically, and still provides the patient with permanent, natural looking, durable replacement teeth.

An implant supported bridge is similar to a conventional bridge, except that it is anchored by dental implants, rather than adjacent teeth.

Like conventional bridges, implant supported bridges are made from a specially fabricated metal core with dental porcelain fused to the surface, creating a solid, durable tooth replacement that looks, feels, and functions just like your natural teeth.
